Perinatal Psychiatry in Maine
Thoughtful, Evidence-Based Mental Health Care Before, During, and After Pregnancy
Pregnancy and the postpartum period are times of profound physical, emotional, and psychological change. While many people expect these transitions to feel joyful, they can also bring anxiety, mood symptoms, sleep disruption, and a sense of overwhelm. You are not alone—and effective, safe help is available.
I am a board-certified psychiatrist with advanced training in perinatal psychiatry, providing specialized mental health care to individuals before, during, and after pregnancy. I offer thoughtful, individualized treatment grounded in current evidence and tailored to your values, goals, and stage of life.
What Is Perinatal Psychiatry?
Perinatal psychiatry focuses on mental health during:
Preconception and family planning
Pregnancy
Postpartum and early parenthood
This includes careful evaluation of symptoms, discussion of treatment options, and—in some cases—expert guidance around the safe use of psychiatric medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Decisions about psychiatric medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding can feel overwhelming. My role is to help you navigate these choices with clarity, nuance, and evidence-based guidance. For some patients, medication is an important part of treatment. For others, non-medication approaches may be appropriate. We will make these decisions together, thoughtfully and collaboratively.
I value collaborative care and am happy to communicate with your other providers to support continuity and safety throughout pregnancy and postpartum.
