Dr. Sara Powers
I am a board-certified psychiatrist dedicated to providing thoughtful, individualized, and compassionate mental health care. I graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed my residency in general psychiatry at Maine Medical Center, where I served as Chief Resident. Originally from Maine, I feel deeply committed to caring for Mainers and supporting individuals through meaningful mental health change.
I am skilled in both psychopharmacology and psychotherapy, with experience across a wide range of psychiatric conditions. Through my training and career, I have experience providing care in inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient levels of care. This allows me to tailor treatment plans that address your unique needs. I prioritize an integrated approach to treatment, guided by your individual goals and values. You do not need to have clear answers or goals at the outset—part of our work is clarifying what feels most important to you. In addition, I have a special interest and advanced training in perinatal psychiatry, focusing on the mental health of individuals before, during, and after pregnancy. While this is a particular area of interest, I work with adults across many life stages and concerns.
At the heart of my approach is a strong belief in the power of the therapeutic relationship. I take time to get to know my patients, understand their goals, and work together toward meaningful, lasting change. Ultimately, I believe that effective treatment is built on trust, respect, and partnership.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time in nature with my family, baking, and gardening.
